A 64-year-old male patient from the community with fever. He has underlying COPD and a high-risk exposure to Covid-19. He presents with respiratory distress which progresses to respiratory failure requiring intubation and mechanical ventilation.

Goals and Objectives

Educational Goal:

  • Identify and isolate a patient with a novel, highly infectious disease.

Objectives (Medical and CRM):

  • Review an approach to febrile patients who present during a pandemic.
  • Prioritize the initial approach of infection control.
  • Review the initial management of the patient with sepsis/respiratory failure.
