Racism and colonialism are important determinants of health.
Emergency providers have the opportunity to either mitigate or perpetuate their effects.

CAEP’s academic symposium panel on anti-racism and anti-colonialism convened a working group, conducted a literature review, and engaged key stakeholders in identifying opportunities to intervene in emergency medicine.

Our group proposes 16 recommendations on direct patient care, departmental policy, physician advancement, and professional development.

We hope that these recommendations promote dialogue on reducing racialized health care disparities in emergency departments.
